My primary mediums are Coloured Pencil and Biro. The advantage of the biro, over other ink pens, is that you can shade with it like you can with a pencil. Yet unlike a pencil, it gives a sharper glossier finish and is great for detail. It is a medium that is relatively unexplored by artists possibly because of the fact that it is very difficult to make any alterations to your work once it’s on the paper; not to mention the great deal of patience required in the process of building up each layer of the picture.  Pet portraits can take me from 15 to 30 hours to complete.  Some in the art world don’t regard the biro very highly, which I find difficult to understand as it is surely the end result that matters and not the medium used.  Therefore, I want to encourage the use of biro as a valid medium and what better way to do that than to use it to create something that people cherish so deeply. I hope you enjoy seeing art that can be created with such an everyday writing implement that we all use.  I have a real passion for drawing animals and hope this comes through in the work you can see on this site.
